WHITE HOUSE Wood Relic on 200th
Anniv. FDC
1950 Historic Material
Construction of the President’s House, later known as the White House, began in 1792 under President George Washington. Completed in 1800, every President, since John Adams, has resided in this historic structure. During the War of 1812 the British forces invaded Washington and burned the White House. It was immediately rebuilt and has since been an important part of the history of the United States of America.
The beautiful First Day Cover and stamp were issued on Oct. 18, 2000 commemorating the 200
th
Anniversary of the White House. The piece of wood attached to the front is an actual piece of heart pine used in the rebuilding of the President’s House. It is about ½ inch long. The pine was removed during the well documented reconstruction of the White House under Pres. Truman in 1950. The wood was originally sold to the public as souvenirs by the
Commission on the Renovation of the Executive Mansion.
The original larger piece of wood, that this small piece was cut from, is in my possession. It has an authenticating bronze plaque.
Here is your chance to own a unique quality 200
th
Anniversary first day cover with an actual piece of the White House attached!
The First Day Cover with wood attached and a signed COA is in a 6 x 9” stiff plastic protector for display, if you don’t want to frame it.
A beautiful historic display worthy of any location!
